A Bolt of Silk is a rare crafting material, which is required to craft certain armor types/parts for Elementalist, Mesmer, Ranger, Warrior and Ritualist classes (see Usage, below).
Acquisition
Acquiring Bolts of Silk can be difficult and costly as there is only one Artisan who can craft Bolts of Silk; in addition, this artisan in particular is only available in Guild Wars Factions. The most effective means of acquiring Bolts of Silk for Guild Wars Prophecies characters is to spend time hunting for spiders in Pre-Searing Ascalon. Spiders in Pre-Searing (except Moss Spiders) frequently drop Spider Webs, which can be later salvaged into Bolts of Silk with an Expert Salvage Kit. This item is often commonly dropped by Outcasts, as well as salvaging from their armor. Soloing them, often to kill their bosses, will give a large amount of it on the way.
In summary:
- Artisans in Guild Wars Prophecies do not seem to be able to craft this material.
- In Guild Wars Factions, Artisans can craft Bolts of Silk from 10 Piles of Glittering Dust, 10 Bolts of Cloth, and 250 Gold.
- Can be bought at Rare Material Traders.
- Can be salvaged with an Expert Salvage Kit from some salvage items. Known items are:
- Spider Webs
- Maguuma Spider Webs
- Crimson Skull Capes
- Mursaat Garments
- other dropped robes and shifts
- Is dropped commonly by Outcasts.
