A Bowstring is the prefix upgrade for bows.

- Bowstrings can be found on any bow with a rarity of blue, purple, or gold. If, after being identified, the bow's name begins with one of the modifiers listed below, then it contains a corresponding Bowstring.
- The Bowstring can be salvaged from the original item using an Expert Salvage Kit or equivalent.

Bowstrings can be found with a variety of modifiers, summarized below. The name of a specific Bowstring will identify its modifier, e.g. Vampiric Bowstring.
