Chosen

The Chosen is the name the White Mantle give to those marked by the Eye of Janthir as possessing True Sight, and therefore have great potential. Every year, the White Mantle apply the Test of the Eye to find all people marked as being gifted. These young people are supposedly then escorted by the White Mantle to the Temple of the Unseen to study under the Grand Masters of the White Mantle.

It is later on discovered that this is a hoax. The White Mantle are indeed looking for people with great potential but they do not take them to study, instead they brutally sacrifice them on Bloodstones. This is not just over-zealous fanaticism, there are two reasons the White Mantle do this:

• They are aware of the Flameseeker Prophecies which spell the doom of their masters, the Unseen Ones, and thus they are trying to prevent the prophecies from coming true.
• They use the souls of those sacrificed to power the Soul Batteries that keep the Door of Komalie closed. The door holds behind it something their unseen masters greatly fear.
• You find out in the Sanctum Cay mission that your character is in fact one of the chosen.

In the Domain of Anguish, you find out that the Door of Komalie leads into The Foundry of Failed Creations, where the Titans live. The Mursaat fear the Titans and their power, and try to prevent the unleashment of them into Tyria no matter what.
