A typical dye chart
General
This project is designed to help coordinate the creation, addition and maintenance of dye charts. Dye charts are images that show how dyes affect an item in a clear, easy to see way and make a valuable addition to a weapon's page.
Guidelines
- Dye charts, like other images, should have a name which clearly states what they are. A suggested naming format is:
<item name> dye chart.jpg
- A dye chart should at least show the effects of all 11 available dye colors on an item clearly and the item's default color if it is significantly different from any of the dye colors. The default color of an item should be clearly labeled, eg. default or undyed.
- How dye affects an item should be clearly visible; the panels should be zoomed in on the item enough that any small but important ways in which dye may affect an item can easily be seen.
- The panels in a dye chart should be arranged to display well on the typical screen.
Notes
- Gray dye is spelled Gray dye, not Grey dye.
- Items which share one skin will generally dye the same way and thus, can share a dye chart.
- For some items, where they were acquired affects how they dye. For example, only some Bone Staves are dyable and those acquired in Tyria dye differently from those acquired in Cantha. A dye chart for an item like this or at least, the item's page should note which version of the item it is for.
- Some items, such as the Great Conch have bugged, inverse lighting and a dye effects on these items do not show well in the dye preview window - the effect of dye will appear very dark and dull while actually applying the dye produces a far more vibrant effect which can easily be seen when they are equipped in an explorable area. You can adjust the brightness and contrast of dye charts done for these items from the preview window to make them more representative of how dye affects these items but this is not an ideal solution.
Tips
- Use the -bmp command line switch to have your screenshots saved in the lossless bitmap format which will greatly improve their quality and as a result, the quality of a dye chart made from them. Be aware, however, that screenshots saved in this format are much larger than those saved in the default jpeg format and may crash your computer if you run out of hardrive space.

- Name: name of the item
- Comments on dyability: comments on dyability, eg. what parts dye
- Dye chart status: whether a dye chart exists and if so, its completion status
- a good quality chart exists that shows the effect of all eleven dye colors that is labeled and also shows the item's default color if it is significantly different from a dye color
- a dye chart exists but may not show all dye colors or is of poor quality
- no dye chart exists- (none) - item is not affected by dye or cannot be dyed
- Comments on dye chart: any relevant comments on an existing dye chart, eg. missing colors
