Greetings - I had a long write up on solo rune farming on enchanted mobs in the desert in Prophecies on my user page. The whole write up is gone, and I'm sure I wouldn't have removed it. Just wanted to make sure I didn't violate some rule by putting that type of content on my user page; failing that, I'd like to know why/how the content got removed. I can re-add from my guild's website, but don't want to if it's just going to get removed again and/or get me in more trouble :). Please let me know what happened if you can, at your convenience. Thanks and regards, Brankoz 00:19, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

:Pages load from the top-down, so most likely your page didn't load all the way, making it look like the content had been removed (you've got a large page). On that note, it might be easier for you if you put the guide in a subpage, like <code>User:Brankoz/Solo Farming</code> or something of the sort. Would load slightly faster, and might make it simpler for you to edit it, since the whole guide would have it's own page. --<font color="#237d00"> Jïörüjï Ðērākō.></font><small><font color="#237d00">.cнаt^</font></small> 23:16, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Run scamming

another player took 2 k from me for a run. and then put me on ignore. what can i do?---97.81.132.232 16:14, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Not a lot. You can try and report them (I don't remember where), but it probably won't help. About all you can do is not pay upfront the next time.Entrea SumataeEntrea [Talk] 17:00, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
Support is your best option, is my guess. They can't get your gold back generally, and they might not even do anything to the other player, but it's the most you can do. And yes, never take a run from anyone who asks for the gold up-front. It's not uncommon to see "pay half at the halfway point" for runs with halfway points, such as the Droks run. But anyone who wants the gold before he even starts is not only in prime position to just leave you hanging, but if he fails to run you, he might not pay you back; or even if he gets disconnected by mistake, you might not be able to find him again. --GEO-logo Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 05:50, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Guild Wars 2

How would one be able to bata test GW2?

                   -GW megafan
Wait until Anet announces a gw2 beta, which will (hopefully) be next year. Cress Arvein Cress sig 23:37, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

ok tyvm

Unless anet does private invite, when the beta is opened up, GuildWiki will have a notice RandomTime 11:36, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
They said there would certainly be an Open Beta, so just have patience <3 --- Ohaider!-- (s)talkpage 12:29, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

now would it be announced on GW-wiki or in-game GW?

It'll probably hit the wikis, [1], and maybe an ingame announcement at about the same time.Entrea SumataeEntrea [Talk] 22:05, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

ok cool ^_^

It may be worthwhile to note that any announcement (official or unofficial) that
  • exhorts you to send an email to an address not at guildwars.com, guildwars2.com, or arenanet.com or
  • requires your account password (the real Arenanet have your password) or
  • cannot be confirmed by looking it up (possibly via a google search) on one of the above sites
is certainly fake. --◄mendel► 09:27, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Ok cool TYVM!

soo........ any update on GW2?

Unless it is listed in the GuildWars.com news, Game updates, or Guild Wars login announcements, no. You'd probably want to check Guild Wars 2 Wiki anyway, as they would probably have any updates before us - after all, GuildWiki is primarily dedicated to GW1. Entropy Sig (T/C) 18:45, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
Another trick is to go to Guild Wars 2 and click "watch" at the top of the page. If you use your Special:Watchlist when you're visiting GuildWiki (the link is at the top of the page as well), you'll automatically see any changes to that page, which is the logical place for new stuff about GW2 to show up on. --◄mendel► 23:03, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

alright cool, thank you

Getting training for extra secondary professions

I have a factions character that is Weh No Su (can change secondary professions) and I've gone and purchased all the professions for this character. Is there any way I can get training for these secondary professions that I add? 72.81.212.77 12:37, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

No. When you change your secondary profession, you just get some basic skills, and that's it. --- Ohaider!-- (s)talkpage 12:48, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
Aren't the training camp in Churrhir Fields and the Shing Jea headmaster quests still available? If not, tough luck: you should've learned these skills earlier, now you have to pay for them. :-P --◄mendel► 12:51, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
The skill quests after Lion's Arch in Prophecies will be available for that character, you can take him/her over to Tyria and work through them. —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken 14:01, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
iirc, pretty much every skill quest in Prophecies is exclusive to Prophecies characters. You'll simply need to buy some skills for the other professions you've got.
You shouldn't need training at this point in the game; you already know how to use your character, one assumes. A quick note, if you're using more skills from your secondary profession then from your primary profession, then chances are you'd be better off with a new character in that profession. There are minor exceptions, of course, but generally speaking, stick with your primary profession's strengths, and just use a few skills from your secondary as support stuff. --GEO-logo Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 17:07, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
Looks at the Skill Quests page, Jio. Skill quests from Kryta, Kaineng, and Vabbi on up are all available to any character from any campaign, so any skills those offer can be used to get secondary profession skills.Entrea SumataeEntrea [Talk] 22:08, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
Ok, so there really aren't any skills quests in Factions or Nightfall. But Prophesies after Kryta are still open.Entrea SumataeEntrea [Talk] 22:11, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Printing pages from GuildWiki

How can I print a page from GuildWiki without those ads over the text? Thanks for the help! The preceding unsigned comment was added by Griffenfeld (talk • contribs) 07:57, 6 September 2008 (UTC).

Sorry for the double post!

NP - i'll get rid of it, in the sidebar there should be a toolbox - and then it should say printable version - try that, if not you might have to block the ads RandomTime 09:20, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
On Monaco, I can't find the link. And even if it's there, the "Wikia Spotlight" images collect in the upper left corner on the printable version with Monaco on FF3. This is a bug, thanks for notfying us, we'll pass it on to wikia.
What works is to open your wiki preferences (a link to that is hidden in the dropdown in the upper right corner of the page), select the "skins" tab, and set your preferred skin temporarily (or permanently, like I do) to "Monobook". You will then find a "printable version" link at the bottom of the sidebar, and this will only create a thin ad bar at both the top and the bottom of the page. (The Monaco version, if it worked, would have no ads.)
Another way to achieve this without changing your skin preference (maybe to print just a single page) is to append ?printable=yes&useskin=monobook to the URL of the page you want to print, click here for an example. There are even other ways to get at the page content if you are technically minded, more on forum:coding.--◄mendel► 10:02, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

The ads over the text should be gone now, whichever way you choose to print. If not, please keep reporting the problem. --◄mendel► 22:58, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

HELP!!!

I logged on a few days ago and all my ectos, rubies, money, black and white dyes, and good weapons were gone. in total about a worth of 400k!! Someone must have stolen them I emailed the gw support team and told them about this and i wanted to know if they could do anything about it is there a way that they can find out who stole my stuff or possibly give me my stuff back?

Your help is appreciated

Did you give out your password to ANYONE, at ANY time? If you can prove you were hacked they MAY be able to get your stuff back. Bunneh ~Bunny 00:19, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

no i did not i dont know how it happened i did not download anything that may have stolen my data either

Sorry, but you getting your stuff back is highly unlikely. The hacker might get caught however. You should provide support with as much information as you can (times, dates, lists of things lost etc.) As far as why they got to you, it may be because you use a week password, or make other accounts with the same password, give out your password, have a keyloger on you computer... quite a lot of possibilities. Sorry to hear you lost a lot, though you could lose a lot more then just 400k. — Poki#3 My Talk Page :o, 02:51, 8 September 2008 (UTC)
Changing your current password would be a good idea, seeing as if you were hacked, they would still have your password. --GEO-logo Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 06:45, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Page assistance

Im a little confused as to why half the images on this page of mine arent showing up and showing as just "no image for this skill"? Is it just me or is it a preferances problem? I know the linking is correct. Kamiawolf 04:58, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

There is a problem with pages that have too many skillbars on them. You overload the #ifexist calls limit, so even though the linking is correct, the wiki shows an error. One of my pages has the same problem. There's no real solution at the moment other than to use less skillbars or split the page into more than one page... Entropy Sig (T/C) 05:06, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
... or to fix the Skillbar template to use Skill box Get Image? --◄mendel► 06:30, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
For now, mini skill bar works (at least for me. Reminded me I need to update that page btw.) — Poki#3 My Talk Page :o, 12:14, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
Each skill only uses 1 if-exist call, and you have a lot of double skills in there, so that might be why you didn't exceed the limit yet. I don't know crap about the templates, let alone if Mini skill bar uses if-exist calls, but oh well. --- Ohaider!-- (s)talkpage 12:52, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
Mini skill bar does not use ifexist, it doesn't care if you accidentally create image redlinks. It probably should care, but as long as people use it responsibly, that shouldn't be an issue. —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken 13:39, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
You can see the image redlinks in Preview. We don't protect people against accidentally creating text redlinks, do we? --◄mendel► 15:48, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the suggestion about mini skill bar. I prefer the look of the regular bar, but it fixes the problem. Kamiawolf 09:48, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
You could also just use scalable skill bar - mini skill bar basically just uses it with a set icon size (33px). ¬ Wizårdbõÿ777(talk) 13:24, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

The Search for Enlightenment

I was on a quest from the Halls of chokhn which i got from Kachok " the path to enlightenment" the guy Hanbahd died and my log informed me to rezone or abandon quest to reset it. But after rezoneing and also abandoning the quest i still cant get the quest back from Kachok, does anyone no the solution to this bug, much appreciated Sir spended 22:13, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

Just rezoning would have been enough. If you abandoned it, you have to take the quest from Hanbahd the Anchorite in Holdings of Chokhin again and do it over. — Poki#3 My Talk Page :o, 00:09, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

I Got the quest from Kachock not Hanbahd, so thats a little confusing, i know the end quests sees me with Hanbahd, but he is not avaialble until you start the quest from Kachok. I had the scrolls but now i have abandoned the quest so therefore do not have them now, when i go back to Kachok to restart it he doesn't have a marker above his head for the quest, and when u click him he waffles on about the scrolls as if u already have them; i know there is a bug for this as i have read it somewhere on another wiki page, but there doesn't seem to be a solution. Sir spended 12:42, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

The quest you want is actually The Madness of Prophecy. Entropy Sig (T/C) 19:26, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

Image Upload - Internal Error

My apologies if this is just me doing something incorrectly, but I'm trying to update some of the missing pictures on the Ranger Elite Sunspear armor page. The first time I attempted to upload an image I got this error:

Internal error Could not rename file "/tmp/phpC2ze4M" to "public/9/91/Ranger_Elite_Sunspear_Armor_M_gray_head_side.jpg".

So I tried a second time and then got this error:

Internal error Could not rename file "public/9/91/Ranger_Elite_Sunspear_Armor_M_gray_head_side.jpg" to "public/archive/9/91/20080925200045!Ranger_Elite_Sunspear_Armor_M_gray_head_side.jpg".

Is this a user error (on my part) or a wiki error? Shadowlance 20:05, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

When did you do this? One of Wikia's image servers was broken a couple of days ago, that would explain it if it was then. If it was today, report it on the GuildWiki:Wikia staff noticeboard please. Felix Omni Signature 20:08, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
It was today. Thanks for the advice. I'll report it on the staff noticeboard. Shadowlance 20:27, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

Reed Bog monsters

It seems unclear whether Jungle Skale, Maguuma Warriors or Wind Riders actually occur in the Reed Bog (part of the Maguuma jungle). If anyone could check and report here or on Talk: Reed Bog, that'd be good. Please state whether you used normal or hard mode, or if you were doing any quests in the area. --◄mendel► 08:31, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

As I stated previously on that talk page, Maguuma Warriors are quest-only during Blood And Smoke, and I've never seen the other two in either mode. —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken 13:31, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Polymock error???

I have defeated probably 3 or 4 people in polymock, and now when I try to go against anyone, they say "You don't have at least 1 common, 1 uncommon, and 1 rare polymock piece unlocked yet. You cannot play opponents using tournament rules at this time." Of course I don't have a rare piece you idiot, I haven't beaten them yet!! Hoff doesn't give me a quest, just says that I'm not ready to fight him....so what can I do to continue in polymock? I'm not gonna have to buy a rare piece, am I???The preceding unsigned comment was added by Cradiak The Mystic (contribs) .

First of all have you finished all these quests?
Polymock: Defeat Yulma
Polymock: Defeat Plurgg
Polymock: Defeat Blarp
Polymock: Defeat Fonk
Polymock: Defeat Grulhammer Silverfist
Polymock: Defeat Necromancer Volumandus
Polymock: Defeat Dune Teardrinker
Polymock: Defeat Master Hoff
if not find out which and complete them
Second, its not an error... during the quest line you dont need 1 common 1 uncommon or 1 rare but if you've already defeated them then yes you do need 1 of each of those to battle them again beacause you've already finished their quest. --Balistic Pve (T/C) 16:50, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Note that in order to get the second-last one - Defeat Dune Teardrinker - you need to have first completed The Dawn of Rebellion, which is one of the primary Ebon Vanguard quests. ¬ Wizårdbõÿ777(talk) 18:04, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
--Ah, that was probably it. I don't think I have done that quest yet. Thanks for the help :D --Cradiak

Nvidia N4 drivers

Are you having any issues with the nvidia card?

I don't have a Nvidia card, but i'd suggest getting the latest drivers, try GuildWars support RandomTime 15:19, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
I had issues with the nvidia drivers that came with my laptop, which were about 9 months old. GW was the only thing which had any problems with them that I used at that point. I found the site http://laptopvideo2go.com to be quite effective (I seem to recall being referred there by the people at GW). They have extensive collections of archived Nvidia drivers, and an extensive cross-correlation of what is known to work with each laptop. I still have it crash occasionally, but it generally recovers quickly and GW isn't affected other than whatever fight I might've been in at that exact moment. I assume it's oriented towards laptops just by the name, but you may be able to either get some ideas there, or at least get a response from someone which might point you to an alternative for home usage. 06:58, 6 January 2009 (UTC)OBloodyhell

I tamed a bear... but still need help

So, i managed to tame a bear, after a long time, and when i finally tried to go out and test my bear, i noticed that it just wont follow me, it just starts walking in circles where it is, i tried changing his commands, heel, guars, attack but nothing... so i was wondering why this was happening, he is a level 4 bear --May monk of healing 19:30, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

It's still a bit wild... give it time. --◄mendel► 23:42, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
On a slightly more serious note, does your bear follow you if you run for a distance? All pets (including minipets) will "wander around" when you're not moving. Changing the commands won't do anything outside of battle. In battle, the "heel" command will tell the pet not to fight, the "guard" command is default behavior (attacks what you attack, and occasionally attacks foes that attack you), and the "attack" command only works when you're locked on to a foe; it'll lock the pet onto just that foe, allowing you to attack other targets without the pet switching too. --GEO-logo Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 02:34, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Profession Icons showing up wrong

Professino icons bugged
This happens for me to the infoboxes in every article, whether it's for bosses, skills or NPC's. Some articles is worse than others, sometimes it'll be nearly the right width, sometimes it'll be 2-3 pixels wide. I use FireFox 3.0.3(latest iirc) but I don't remember changing anything on my end prior to this happening. Also I'm not really sure where I should put this :P feel free to move it to the right place GW-Viruzzz 09:38, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

Yes, there is a problem with the infoboxes. A recent change "fixed" an old typo so they work properly now; but at the same time, other sitewide problems are causing errors which makes this happen. I get it too, but it's random which icons (if any) are affected. Entropy Sig (T/C) 09:45, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
It's very consistent for me, I haven't seen anywhere it isn't bugged. It's not happening to the other images like recharge, energy etc. (yet) But I haven't seen a box with an icon that wasn't messed up yet. GW-Viruzzz 10:13, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
It's happening for the recharge/cost/cast time/sac/exhaustion for me, too. King Neoterikos 10:17, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
Dr ishmael has been working on the problem; I assume it's gone now? --◄mendel► 00:12, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
So much better now, not perfect though. Elementalist skills have the icon slightly overlapping the profession. Only for Factions, Nightfall and Core skills (Prophecies and EotN fix it by having a longer name :P) Same with type, "Enchantment spell" widens the infobox enough to not overlap
Example - Although it's much better than before :) GW-Viruzzz 11:27, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

Parser in table

Can I get someone to look at these two pages and help me with getting this to display correctly.

The first page has a table that uses an if statement to determine if it displays. In this case it is the variable ep.

The second page is the display with the variable defined. The problem is that I have other parts of the table setup showing also.

[| my display page]

Silent fist of fury 22:50, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

The parser upgrade is breaking this in a big way, you can't use nested pipes like that any more, but you ought to be able to use literal pipes. Lemme play with that a bit. --◄mendel► 00:16, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
Ok, the table setup is just text unless you tell the wiki that it's a table (i.e. put it in {| and |}. Use the pipe only for | that you need for wikitables, if you need them for templates or links, the wiki will figure it out correctly where they go if you just put them in as-is. Back to Pre-Searing

Is there a way to come back to PRE-SEARING ASCALON....i want a title with my character to become a cartographer and i explored everything except pre-searing ascalon...i rushed through that part i want to come back now...PLS RESPOND FAST

I have good news and bad news. The bad news first: It is impossible to play Pre-Searing again unless you make a new character. Existing characters can't go back.
The good news: Pre-Searing Ascalon does not count for the cartographer title - only areas you can see on your big Tyria map do (unless they're in Eye of the North, you don't need to do those). This means you still can get your cartographer title.
Consult our Grandmaster cartography guide to find out what you may have missed. If all else fails, get Cartography Made Easy to find out what you've overlooked. --◄mendel► 10:34, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

Accidentally abandoned a primary quest... can I get it back?

In Night Fall, I got the Whisper challenge was about to do the mission to get the Whisper and I accidentally abandoned that primary quest... stupid but true. Can I get it back? If you can help let me know.

Thanks

Yes, you can always retake a primary quest. If you haven't left the outpost yet, you may need to zone into a different district before the NPC will offer it again. Felix Omni Signature 03:37, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

I was upset and I got out of the game.

In that case, when you log back in the same NPC should offer it again. Felix Omni Signature 03:42, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

I have tried that, but he is not offering again, I think it was Dunkoro in command post. It was a multi level quest and I had already done one part.

If it was The Command Post, you need to retake that from Lonai, not Dunkoro. Felix Omni Signature 03:47, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

She is not offering it either. The Mission was given by Whisper it was called To Kill a Demon

The quest page says you should be able to get it from the Master of Whispers in Dejarin Estate, just outside of Kodonur Crossroads. ¬ Wizårdbõÿ777(talk) 04:07, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

That wouldn't have worked in this case because the vandal didn't actually edit the Ritualist skills page, he edited a template that was included on the page. ¬ Wizårdbõÿ777(talk) 04:16, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
What this does is to delete everything the vandal added, so Lazuli was right all along <3. --◄mendel► 15:40, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I noticed it was in the subpage, but the same vandalism didn't appear on, for instance, the Monk skills quick reference, which I thought called forth the same subpage. Ah well. It's solved then. Lazuli 01:15, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
The reason it wasn't appearing on everything was because it was a cache issue. When you have pages including templates that include other templates that include other templates, the server probably gets as confused as we do xD ¬ Wizårdbõÿ777(talk) 03:48, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
That is it, in short. A slightly longer explanation follows:
It's not strictly a case of confusion. The vandal changed Template:BeastInfo, which is used on thousands of pages (Dr Ishmael has protected it now). If the wiki applied the change to all those pages immediately, the server would get so bogged down that it could no longer respond. That is why these get placed in a queue that is worked on as pages are being served, and while there is this queue, you may encounter pages that don't have the change yet. Of course a full queue (and the BeastInfo change filled it up much) also delays all other changes from being applied, so that is why you may still see the "old" version on some pages. You can make a null edit (edit the page, but don't change anything, and save) or just append ?action=purge to the page URL to force such a change to be applied to a page, if you need to see it.
So the wiki isn't confused, it is just slow and methodical, albeit at the price of being inconsistent as it catches up. --◄mendel► 09:55, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Jagged Horror

while i was trying to get jagged horror from "Avarr the Fallen" in "Jaga Moraine" the signet of capture would not work for the one skill "jagged horrors", instead, the skill had a lock with a shield over it and would not let me capture it. i tried doing this multiple times and it still would not let me capture it even after killing him multiple times. Im starting to get worried that the game wont let me get it. i was just wondering what i was supposed to do in order to get it.

First, try not to post things multiple times. Sometimes it may post it multiple times if you hit the submit button multiple times. Anyhow, to your question: If you do not have the right campaign for the skill (Nightfall for Jagged Bones), you can't capture it. --JonTheMon 23:59, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Unfortunately not. Back when we merged with Wikia, for a short time they were accepting account rename requests if the Wikia account was inactive, but no longer. Image upload problems

I'm having trouble uploading a new version of Image:Wain No.jpg. I've uploaded the new version a couple days ago, but still see the old on the image's page, and where I'm using it (my userpage), but when I today tried to upload the new version again, I got a message that "this file is identical to Wain No.jpg" showing the version I uploaded the other day, even though this was the same file name I was trying to upload to. The "current version" showed as the original image.

Now, when I look at the revision history, the data in the table shows the old version at the original date (nov 17), and identical data (the new version's) at the second and third versions (4 & 6 dec). However, when clicking the links to see the old revisions, it shows the old version at revision 1 and 3 (nov 17 and dec 6), while the middle one (4 dec) shows the new. At no point have the new version actually been what I can see on my userpage. (I have tried clearing the cache twice) The second upload (first try of the new version) I used the same source name as the original upload, as I had overwritten that file locally, but for the third upload I changed it to a new source name in case that had affected it.

(to help identify the images, to see if this is a local problem for me, the old version is a female assassin in non-elite Canthan armor, the new is the same assassin in Monument armor. Dimensions differ slightly aswell.)

Can anyone shed some light on this? Mrs J 16:26, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

Someone go prod wikia staff about this, I'm seeing a similar problem. Are you in Europe, Mrs J? I uploaded a 1.6 MB snow image and replaed with subsequently with a smaller one, but the version I am receiving is still the big one. --◄mendel► 16:51, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm in Europe (Sweden), if that matters any... Well at least it seems like it's not a local issue then at least. I guess wait and see is the best approach right now then? Mrs J 17:14, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
Well now it seems to have been fixed/sorted itself out, because now it shows the right image for me at least! Mrs J 19:03, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
I've just received confirmation that the European image cache servers are having problems that apparently wikia is being aware of. Unfortunately I don't have any more light to shed than that bit of third-hand information. --◄mendel► 23:27, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

Graphics being stupid

Okay, so my video card is pretty good, not amazing but it's good. I've had it on max graphics before, and it worked fine, but this last time I put the graphics all the way up, it made it so I can't see my screen or change the graphics back. Is there a way I can fix this without needing to redownload the DAT file? MiniKold 01:12, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Ok, use the Windows command line to start GuildWars windowed; you can then call up the options and change the setting back down. "C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\gw.exe" -windowed (you can also edit the shortcut you're using to start guild wars with). If that doesn't work for some reason, you could try -repair, but I'm not exactly sure what it does, --◄mendel► 01:21, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Guild information pages

I would like to inquire about a section of pages on wikki to post Guild information. Kind of a profile page to let other know what your guild is about and to link to specific Guild websites. I seem to remember stumbling upon some of them in the past and cannot find my way back now. Do these pages exist still?? if so where? If not is it something that could be added? and where? Regards --moparmyk440

On GuildWiki, you can put guild information on your user pages, for example, on User:Moparmyk440/MyGuild. There are different rules on the official wiki, and of course there is the Guild Wars Guilds wiki. --◄mendel► 06:32, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

GWEN

when i download GWEN i clicked play guild wars:eye of the north, but then it just goes to my original game (GW triology) PLease help!

All parts of Guild Wars are interconnected- to get to Eye of the North, you need to take Hole of Istan from Bendah in Kamadan, OR What Lies Beneath from Len Caldoron in Lion's Arch, OR I Feel the Earth Move Under Cantha's Feet from Minister of Maintenance Raiugyon in Kaineng Center. Any of those quests will take you there. Felix Omni Signature 08:13, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
GW:EN is not a campaign, and you can't start a new character there. You have to take one of your existing characters that are at least level 10 and travel there via one of the quests that Felix mentioned. --◄mendel► 09:33, 18 December 2008 (UTC)

RAM

Just how fast will GW run on 750 MB of RAM? Does it make a HUGE difference between 1 GB and 750 MB? The preceding unsigned comment was added by 74.70.73.106 (contribs) .

RAM doesn't makes much difference as far as speed goes (I'm assuming you mean framerate/etc.), as long as you meet the minimum requirements, which is 512 MB for Eye of the North. The only thing you might notice is a longer delay when loading into instances if you don't have the recommended 1 GB, but that would be it. Your CPU and graphics cards would have much more effect on the actual speed of the game, but you can always turn down the graphics detail if that's a problem. —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken 16:37, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
(I'm assuming you mean framerate/etc. , The only thing you might notice is a longer delay when loading into instances) Ya that is what I ment by the "speed" of the game. Right now I have 256MB of RAM( ya I know, I must live in the Stone Age or something) and when I Map Travel or enter/leave a town it takes forever to load. So having a 700 MB of RAM should help A LOT, right? TY.
Yes, your computer would have more room to hold temporary files for loading and whatnot, which should speed up your load times. Defragging your hard drive might also help to speed things up a tiny bit, especially if you have a lot of stuff saved. --GEO-logo Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 03:34, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

Skill Modification History

This comment is specifically for hundred blades, but it is applicable for any skill. I am trying to see how a skill has changed over time. When I look at history pages, all of them use the current skill description. Editing the skills details/template for the skill and reviewing its history of changes does allow me to review the changes, but it is not intuitive. Is it possible for an old version of the skill (discussion history) to point to the skill template that was in effect when that version was current? Separ 21:19, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

That would be incredibly useful. I have many times looked on talk pages, been confused by a comment, realized that the skill had been changed, and been unable to discover the original purpose of the skill. Is there any way to create skill histories? I know it's not general policy to document what was, as opposed to what is, but we do have the Legacy category. Could we put them there? Qing Guang 21:50, 2 January 2009 (UTC)
Shouldn't the old Skill templates already be saved in some kind of "Legacy" subcategory or something? ...If not, I think we could come up with a really easy to use Dual-Template created just for the Talk Pages *shrug* --ilrIlr d-small(02,Jan.'09)
Historically we have not made notes for such changes because they were few and far between, and also because the wiki is meant to document the state of the game as it is *now*, not from years ago. But, since Izzy seems very fond of doing "Functionality changed to..." recently, perhaps it is time to change. Entropy Sig (T/C) 00:15, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

This happened to me as well. I registered the account a long time ago, forgot what the email/password were, and got shut out of the account. You'll have to contact PlayNC support in order to reobtain access to your account; assuming you belong in the category "English (US)", this link should work; if not, go to this page, click your language, then hit the 'Ask a question' tab, then fill in the info there. Macros (the other macros)

This topic has come up before, but I'd like to ask a specific question. Are macros (custom key bindings) explicitly prohibited by Anet? Can you get banned for them? If not, I'd like to know what a good, reliable, SAFE macro program is for me to use. The reason I want one now is a bit of a long story.
See, in my guild, I'm known as a bit of a loot whore. I pick up every item and sell it, even if it's only worth 3g. But, this past Wintersday season, I played more snowball arena games than all previous years combined (snowball tourney free zkeys gogo.) This revealed a problem I had: even with my epic pr0 looting skills, I still couldn't compete with people who used macros to instantly pick up presents before they hit the ground. I figured that was a good idea, not just for snowballing, but year round. Anything that makes my looting easier is definitely worth my time. I have no knowledge of macro programs, despite my name, aside from the one that was on the CD that came with my mouse. Which of course sucked (couldn't even bind more than 1 thing.) Of course, if macros are banned by Anet, then all this becomes moot. --Macros 12:52, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Why do you need a macro to do two keypresses? It's Targeting: Item - nearest and Action: Attack/Interact (Do It), put them where you can quickly hit them alternately with the fingers of one hand and hope you don't lag too much (or hit them before you see the drop). Or is there something I am missing that would not make this work as well as a macro? --◄mendel► 13:12, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
a macro would probably do it at the same speed, an actual "bot" would probably be quicker because it can send the request to pick up faster than a macro.
But I'm pretty sure it's against the EULA, a quick skim through section 7 OFFICIAL SERVICE says something along the lines of "you agree to not use any third party software that will gain you an advantage". So it looks like it's explicitly prohibited, but as with everything else, they'll only ban the ones they catch. Viruzzz 13:17, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
Macros would be more difficult for Anet to identify than bots, especially one that's only two keystrokes/commands. I have an extra button on my mouse that's mapped to double-click (for quick use of ID/salvage kits, opening of Wintersday Gifts etc.), and the only problem I have with it is if I use it too quickly, I'll get disconnected for overloading the server with too many commands. —Dr Ishmael Diablo the chicken 16:03, 12 January 2009 (UTC)
Iirc, the reason we have the Hero uses Skill 1 buttons, is because someone @Guru made a macro that would move your mouse to the skill icon and back in a split second, and there was a lot of animo for that (esp Hero Battlers; microfest). Thus Anet worked it into the game. Gaile also said you cannot actually be banned for macros, I think that was on GWW. --- Ohaider! -- (contribs) (talk) 18:56, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Paragon skill animation Prolem

Ok so i have been playing my paragon for quite some time and had absolutely no problems till now, just recently whenever i use a skill or chant (i.e anthem of flame)he used to kind of float and wings would come out or others he would just float and point his spear upwards, but now he stands there and the wings do apear but he stands normally and he "throws" his spear to show the skill was activated, i thought it was the graphics so i put them all onto max and still having the same problem... anybody have this problem? or know how to get the skill activation animation back to normal?

That is...odd. It would almost be a bug on ANet's part, because there is nothing you could do to change a skill animation. And there hasn't been an update recently. :\ Entropy Sig (T/C) 17:53, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
I've had that problem thousands of times. Generally also involved RDA whenever I started Guild Wars. This means the gw.dat file is broken, basically, and it cannot load the animation properly. If you get RDA, it should fix itself. If you don't, consider reinstalling. (In my case it was much more severe than that, though, but I doubt your whole OS suddenly breaks down to the point where Windows updates crash your GW, and COM+ is unable to work properly ) --- Ohaider! -- (contribs) (talk) 21:02, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
Worth noting that if the GW.dat file is broken, you can simply move it out of the folder and start Guild Wars, if I recall correctly, it will notice the .dat file is missing and create a new one. A little quicker then re-installing the game, sometimes (you'll need to download a ton of files, but you won't need to actually re-install the .exe or anything).
And if it turns out that's not the problem, you still have the old GW.dat file saved on your computer. --GEO-logo Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 03:35, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Factions colector's edition

does guild wars still sell these, if I specially ordered one from them, because the term collecors edition doesn't suggest it is limited?

No, the Collector's Editions are limited. You may be able to find them still at various retailers or on eBay, but it's unlikely. Felix Omni Signature 17:44, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
Prophecies Game of the Year edition is the only "bonus" thing that ANet will still sell. Yeah, I think it kinda sucks too. Entropy Sig (T/C) 01:59, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

Getting Ascended

So, I have a Prophecies-born character, and I want to ascend, so I must defeat Doppelganger. One question, if I complete Naiphutu Quarter Mission, in factions, do I get ascended, even if I don't defeat Doppelganger?

Yes. You can change your profession then. You can also do that in Nightfall. See also Ascension#Equivalents. --◄mendel► 23:21, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

I've lost my Prophecies storyline.

I've got a prophecies character that I've had for a while and now want to get back to working through the Prophecies primary quests as I had be slowly going through Factions with this char. I had "To Kryta: Refugees" which I completed, but when I got my reward I didn't get any of the dialog conversation nor did I get any follow up quest (To Kryta: The Ice Cave) from Master Seeker Nathaniel. When I speak to him all he does is tell me about his pet wolf Snow.

How do I pick back up the primary storyline so I can complete the game? Now my primary quests are only EotN and Factions quests. Thanks ~~

You can simply walk on to Gates of Kryta (mission) and complete it. That should get you back on track. --- Ohaider! -- (contribs) (talk) 18:13, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
Yep. Unlike the other campaigns, in Prophecies you can access most missions simply by walking to the outpost. The only ones you have to do anything special to access are the Crystal Desert missions (complete Sanctum Cay to get to the desert), Augury Rock (complete all three desert missions), The Dragon's Lair (complete Augury Rock), and the Ring of Fire missions (complete Thunderhead Keep to get to the islands, complete Final Blow to access the first mission, then complete each mission to access the next one). how do you get a mike to work to type for you as i'm a very slow typer and i see as i go with groups they converse freely, also what does ifg, :D and items like these mean thank you Carl in PA The preceding unsigned comment was added by Wizkid73 (contribs) .

you'd have to get a 3rd party software to convert text to type, and I'm not sure how that would work with GW. And it's likely that the people you are playign with are actually typing that fast. As to those terms "lfg" is shorthand for "looking for group" and ":D" is a smilie. The preceding unsigned comment was added by JonTheMon (contribs) .
(edit conflict) Guild Wars does not have any voice communication feature, so you would have to use programs like Teamspeak or Ventrillo. For general playing with other people, this can be quite a hassle to get them all on 1 of those programs. For quicker communication with your teammates, I suggest you use drawings on the compass (by default on the top-right of your screen). Anyone on your teams can see your drawings on that map. If, for instance, you want to take a specific route, you can draw an arrow pointing to where you want to go. If that is not enough, you could simply typ "wait" or "stop" in the chat and then take all the time you need to tell them what you want. ifg, I assume you mean lfg. That means "Looking for group" and is usually followed by what that person is looking a group for (something like: lfg mission). You can find alot of those abbreviations in Guild_Wars_Glossary_of_Terms. Lยкץ๒๏ץ talk 15:25, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

faction points

I started my own guild and have a hall and stuff...everytime I log on i find i have lost 5,000 faction. why is that?

A guild's faction decays at a rate of 10% every day. So if you have 50,000 faction, you'll lose 5,000. ¬ Wizårdbõÿ777(talk) 08:22, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Unable to access www.guildwars.com

Ive been unable to access the guildwars website for about 4 months now and im not sure why. for a little while i thought it could be getting updated but now im not sure that is whats happening , ive asked people in the actual online game and they are able to access ive tried proxies too they didnt work.

sorry for posting this on GWWiki but as you can see i cant ask for help on the main site, can anyone think of any suggestions for me to try??

all help is appreciated

What happens when you open a new browser tab and type "guildwars.com"? Does the FF/IE icon spin and then (after a minute) give an error? Or do you get an error message straight away? And what is the error? And have you tried anything else to resolve the issue?
Here are some things you could try:
  • Use a different browser. IE→Firefox or Safari, for example.
  • If you're using Firefox, do you have an extension that disables scripts or sites? (If so, try disabling the addon to see what happens.)
  • Open a command window (start:run, then type "cmd" and press "enter") -> in the window, type, "ping guildwars.com" → if you get results, the problem is in your browser (not your PC). If you get no pings, the problem will be more complicated to track down.
Let us know if you succeed. Good luck.   — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 18:50, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

Bans

I don't see how you can get banned for saying the f word when you can only see it if you enable it in the options, in which case you should not get offended when people use it. But more or less, I would like to know how I got banned when this guy was insulting me constantly, me and my friend respond a few times and then he posts us both on the net and he walks off a free man. Guild wars really need to consider people like this and have them banned permanently considering there just out to get others banned for no good reason. "I might be able to get a list of names this character has banned. it's a big list" but i cannot get his name for another 39 hours. >_< ←(anonymous: 124.180.208.143)

Sorry to hear that, but we are just a community of players, not ANet... we can't do anything about in-game bans. :( You'd have to go contact Support, or talk to Gaile, or something. Entropy Sig (T/C) 05:33, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

Bans

I understand that you guys can't do anything, but no matter what i try or search it won't let me contact support or even look through possible bans. it's just stressing me out for no reason.

I'm sorry for your trouble and all, but... if you know we can't do anything... what's with this? -->Suicidal Tendencie Suicidal Tendencie Sig 12:36, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
You should be able to simply send a message to Support at the link I just posted (you'll probably want to File a Support Ticket), being banned in-game does not affect your ability to contact ArenaNet through their support website. --GEO-logo Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 18:22, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

missing content from user page??

Scroll down more, it is still there: User:Brankoz#Solo_Farming. --◄mendel► 02:11, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
Pages load from the top-down, so most likely your page didn't load all the way, making it look like the content had been removed (you've got a large page). On that note, it might be easier for you if you put the guide in a subpage, like User:Brankoz/Solo Farming or something of the sort. Would load slightly faster, and might make it simpler for you to edit it, since the whole guide would have it's own page. --GEO-logo Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 23:16, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
