Onyx Gemstones have no known use. A number are in circulation and can be sold and bought at a rare material trader when in stock. Although they have been reported to drop from end-dungeon chests in Eye of the North, they existed before the expansion's release and the origin of these samples is unknown.
Trivia
The art for Onyx Gemstones was previously used as the icon for the Obsidian Shard prior to the update on Wednesday, 29th of June, 2005.
Note
The icon for this item has reappeared in the material storage, one space under the ruby, since the 23rd of August update.
