Skill Points are used to buy skills from skill trainers. Each skill costs one skill point and a certain amount of money. The first skill costs 50 gold, and with each skill purchase the monetary cost for the next skill increases up to a point: currently, the cost will not rise above one platinum.

The total number of unredeemed skill points is listed in the [H]ero window.

Acquiring Skill Points

A character acquires skill points in the following ways:

  • One skill point for every new character level, and after level 20 one point every 15,000 XP. The fastest method to acquire skill points this way is to do high-experience quests in high-level areas such as Sorrow's Furnace or the Fissure of Woe.
  • One skill point on completing any mission for the first time
  • Many quests often give skill points as well, such as Tithe for Ashford Abbey.

Conserve Your Skill Points!

  • It is wise to save skill points for later parts of the game, because some skills can be acquired for free from quests across the continent of Tyria.
  • Skill Trainers at major cities tend to offer questable skills in addition to skills from outposts preceding the location. With few exceptions, if you finish every skill quest, and train at outposts, you will rarely need to use a city trainer.
  • Most trainers at outposts offer skills that are not available as quest rewards. Exceptions are the trainers at Yak's Bend and Quarrel Falls.
  • In Factions, very few skill quests exist outside the initial training on Shing Jea Island, so you will be required to purchase the majority of your skills from a trainer. If you have access to Prophecies as well, it may be wise to tour Tyria for skill quests, especially those that offer Core skills as their reward.
