General Description

The city of Surmia is the subject of the Mission "Ruins of Surmia" and the quest Cities of Ascalon.

You can get to the starting point of the mission from Frontier Gate; the quest "Ruins of Surmia" leads you there.

Location

Surmia is located north-northeast of Ascalon City, north of The Great Northern Wall. It is accessible via a gate in the Wall outside Frontier Gate and then a short walk northwest.

Lore

The city of Surmia, nowadays in ruins, was once one of the prosperous cities of the Kingdom of Ascalon, along with Ascalon City, Nolani, Drascir and Rin.

Surmia is a pretty young city: It was built only about 50 years ago, after the second Guild War. The Charr weren't very strong at that time, so the people of Ascalon made the mistake to build the city north of the Wall. Later they would regret that: When the Charr attacked Ascalon, Surmia was destroyed completely.

The Historical Monument of Surmia

The inscription on the Historical Monument of Surmia reminds of the times when the city was founded:

''Founded: Season of the Phoenix, 1020 AE

If only gladiators died,

Or heroes, death would be his pride.

Here in the shadow of The Great Northern Wall, we build anew. The second Guild War has ended, and Ascalon has been victorious. For the efforts of the men and women who gave their lives while defending our home, we dedicate this stone and the city of Surmia.

We stand outside the Wall in recognition of all they gave and in faith that the victory they have brought will remain. May the strength in their blades and the courage in their hearts be remembered and upheld.
