This quest, as well as other "second" profession quests (mesmer's burden, elementalist experiment etc), are actually available BEFORE the "A Second Profession" quest is taken. They are available as soon as Ranger Test, Monk Test etc are completed, doesn't matter what the primary profession is (ie also do not require "A New (Profession) Trainer" quest). I can't figure out how to concisely word it though. -PanSola 20:21, 31 October 2005 (EST)

Are you saying that they are available to anyone, or just to people who have that class as their primary? --Rainith 04:12, 1 November 2005 (EST)
Available to characters of any profession, as soon as they completed their own "(Profession) Test" quest. A ranger primary can take A Mesmer's Burden as soon as the ranger finished Ranger Test. A monk primary can take The Ranger's Companion as soon as the monk finished Monk Test. -PanSola 05:37, 1 November 2005 (EST)
Ah, I was unaware of that. I would put: <Primary profession> Test for the requirement then. --Rainith 05:46, 1 November 2005 (EST)

Other Animals[]

If you are working towards the "Legendary Defender of Ascalon" title, but do not want to give up your previous animal companion to complete the quest, you can somply bring the tamed animal (Melandru's Stalker) to Jaril the Tamer(I think) and have him get rid of it, then charm another animal :)

Yeah, I didn't even think about this... now I'm a L10 Necro w/ an L10 Strider. I've completed all of the other 2ndary quests because I want to be a 2ndary ranger... but I can't be a 2nd Ranger w/o completing this blasted quest & I can't complete the quest w/o bringing stupid Nente a stupid Stalker. So, I've got to get rid of my L10 Strider, tame an L5 Stalker, finish the quest, then go tame another L3 Strider & do a whole lot of grinding to bring it back up to my level before I go to post ('cuz I'm stubborn like that & I don't fancy Stalkers ;P ).

In short, yes, if you're saving your quests for later, but want to keep a pet that's not a Stalker, complete this quest before you do anything else. I'm guessing that you can complete it w/o accepting the reward, sell your Stalker to Jarrel, tame another pet, then collect the reward w/ your non-Stalker pet later. Anyone know for sure?

Very frustrated right now.  :( Aether Bunny 07:38, 11 July 2007 (CDT)
